In 1968 I did some renderings of my impressions of hobbits. My wife sent copies to J.R.R. Tolkien in the England. He replied with warm comments of my work plus his opinions of the Ballantine Books treatment of his creations. (See letter below). When the movie "The Fellowship of the Ring" was released in November 2001, I was amazed on how similar the actors portraying Bilbo and Sam were to my illustrations created over 30 years ago.
I'm not claiming any influence it is just an interesting "Twilight Zone" moment. NOTE: My drawing of Frodo (not shown) looked nothing like Elijah Wood.
